When I was 15 years old, in 1990, Chris Crawford released a game that I have since played more than any other, called Guns or Butter: A Global Dilemma. I have always loved playing this retro PC game.
In it, you have finite resources, and you must choose either to grow your population by building the equipment to feed them or to build military power to defend yourself and eventually take over others. If you focus too much on food, then a neighbor may invade and take over your hard work. If you focus too much on military, then other economies will grow their population and soon over power you. The game is all about finding the right balance.
I decided to try to reverse engineer the game and make the user experience more modern, and work in a web browser.
