Aaronic Priesthood Preview

  1. Start with a few questions
    1. Missions
      1. Who plans on going?
      2. Where would you want to go if you could choose?
      3. What skills do you think you will need on your mission?
    2. Church Callings
      1. What do you think the “best” calling in the Church is?
      2. What skills do you think you need for this calling?
    3. Most important use of the Priesthood?
      1. Saving ordinances.
      2. Presiding in your home.
  2. A few examples of Aaronic Priesthood holders
    1. John the Baptist
      1. Who did Jesus go to when he needed to be baptized?
      2. Why did Jesus go to John the Baptist?
      3. What Jesus said about John the Baptist (Matthew 11:7-11)
      4. 7 ¶ And as they departed, Jesus began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

8 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses.

9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet.

10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

11 Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

      5. John the Baptist restored the Aaronic Priesthood.
        1. Doctrine & Covenants 13
        2. Keys of the Aaronic Priesthood
          1. Administring of angels
          2. Gospel of repentance
          3. Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins
    2. Wilford Woodruff
      1. Called to the Southern States mission as a Priest.
        1. Fully used all the keys of the Aaronic Priesthood
        2. Administering of angels
          1. Warnings and instruction
          2. “I desire to impress upon you the fact that it does not make any difference whether a man is a Priest or an Apostle, if he magnifies his calling. A Priest holds the keys of the ministering of angels. Never in my life, as an Apostle, as a Seventy, or as an Elder, have I ever had more of the protection of the Lord than while holding the office of a Priest. The Lord revealed to me by visions, by revelations, and by the Holy Spirit, many things that lay before me” (Millennial Star, 5 Oct. 1891, p. 629).

    3. John the Baptist and Wilford Woodruff illustrate the power of the Aaronic Priesthood in one who is worthy.
